&dADOCUMENTATION ON TRANSFER OF CLORI FILES FROM UNIX TO PC&d@ 5-14-93 The following files were transferred from the Unix archive to the library CLORI on 5-14-93: UNIX directory sub-dirs PC directory Contents ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ /user2/oldibycus1/hand90a 1,2,3 STAGE1A stage1 -- early version /user2/ibyt1-4-9-93/hand90a 1,2,3 STAGE1B stage2 -- later version /user2/ibyt1-4-9-93/sclori-3-91 1,2,3 STAGE2 stage2 /user2/ibyt1-4-9-93/clorint-3-91 1,2,3 I-FILES intermediate files /user2/ibyt1-4-9-93/clorisk-3-91 a,b,c SKPAGES page specific files for score /user2/ibyt2-4-14-93/cloriv-11-91 a,b VPAGES page specific files for vocal parts Notes: 1. The XBLANK program (removing spurious first record) was run on all files. 2. File names 1 to 9 were changed to 01 to 09 to reflect current practice. 3. The files in SKPAGES were tested with the DSKPAGE program. It was found that in Aria 2.13, rest fonts were changed to make them disappear. This confused the DSKPAGE program, because it couldn't locate the non-existent fonts. I changed all such invisible rests to font number 250 and defined this as a "blank" in the font file. A modification of page 77, which produced a run-time error, was also fixed. Otherwise, the complete score seems to be preserved in SKPAGES/A and SKPAGES/B. The "C" directory seems to contain some alternate pages, which appear not to have been used in printing the score. 4. The files in VPAGES were tested with the DSKPAGE program. The first 23 files in VPAGES/A contained the vocal score for Part 1 of CLORI; the remaining 27 files contained stage2 MESSIAH data, which I have deleted from this directory. Files 11 to 23 in VPAGES/B also contained stage2 MESSIAH data, and I have deleted these. Files 24 to 56 contained pages 24 to 56 of the vocal score; the remaining 4 files (57 to 60) contained MESSIAH data and have been deleted. 5. The contents of STAGE1A and STAGE1B were tested and found to be identical. One of these can be deleted and the other renamed STAGE1. [done as suggested--EC, 6/93] 6. In the STAGE2 directory, STAGE2/1 contains movements 1,1 to 1,13 plus track 1 of 2,1. STAGE2/2 contains tracks 2 to 5 of movement 2,1 plus movements 2,2 to 2,14 plus track 1 of movement 2,15. STAGE2/3 contains tracks 2 to 5 of movement 2,15 plus movement 2,16. Files 12 to 50 of STAGE2/3 appear to contain garbage, as do files 12 to 50 of STAGE1/3. 7. The I-FILES directory contains the same organization of data. I-FILES/3 contains files 1 to 11, plus a file named "50" which contains mystery data. 8. All in all, the data seems complete. No page-specific files were found for the instrumental parts, however. It is possible these were printed directly from the I-FILES. 9. I have written a program called S2CON.Z, which converts from the old stage2 format to the new stage2 format. In addition to moving some records around in the beginning, and re-arranging columns in the data records, the program eliminates the "M:" data type in $-type (Musical Attribute) records, and recomputes the clef number so that 4 = treble clef and 22 = bass clef, etc. 10. I have run the S2CON.Z program on STAGE2 files and put the results in a directory called STAGE2N (N=new). I ran this on what I considered to be all the valid files (i.e., 1/01 to 1/50, 2/01 to 2/50, and 3/01 to 3/11). 11. The organization of the data files within the STAGE2N directory should be changed to reflect the organization of the music. I would suggest two sub-directories, 1 and 2, for the two parts of the piece. Within these, I would suggest sub-directories named after the movement numbers, i.e., 01 to 14 in 1; 01 to 16 in 2. Within each of these can be the various track numbers 01 -- xx. [done as suggested -- EC] 12. &dAImportant Note&d@: In making changes to the files in STAGE2N, we should keep in mind that the Stage2 data &dAdoes not&d@ currently represent the printed edition. This is because there were (and still are as of 05-15-93) certain stage2 representations (specifically the backup command) which the AUTOPRF program does not handle (I am currently working on this). In order to run AUTOPRF, Steve had to leave out certain things, and add them later to the intermediate files (I-FILES). My suggestion at this time would be to first make those corrections to Stage2 which AUTOPRF can handle. This way, we can run AUTOPRF and check to see that the changes are represented properly. (Do not put the results of this test in the I-FILES directory, or else all of Steve's formatting work will be overwritten.) After making the above corrections, STAGE2N can be copied to a new directory, say STAGE2F, and a proper and complete representation of the data (using chords and the backup command, if necessary) can be attempted. I expect to have a new version of AUTOPRF working by the middle of June, 1993. We can use this to test the final stage2 representation.
